Why the EMPOWER THE IMMIGRANT WOMAN Conference?

In less than 20 years the face of Maine has changed to include many new immigrant families; currently there are more than 7,000 foreign-born residents in Portland and over 3,000 in Lewiston-Auburn. While many immigrant women face challenges in their new country, it is important to note that their are organizations, like the Intercultural Community Center (ICC), that provide programs and services to help address some of these challenges.

This conference will serve to empower, educate & inspire the immigrant women and while raising awareness of significant challenges in order to motivate change in state and federal policies.
